Our Origin Story
How a Belize sailing trip became Pickleball Island.
Pickleball Island started with a boat, a few good friends, and one unforgettable afternoon on a pickleball court in Belize.
In February 2026, our friends Tom and Lisa Eriksen invited us to sail with them and let them show us some of their favorite Belizean islands. They keep their boat in Guatemala, and over the last few years we had become close friends through pickleball, travel, and a shared love of good company.
We flew into Belize City, took a small puddle-jumper flight over to Placencia, and met them at the Placencia Yacht Club — a fancy name for a simple, welcoming dock built by a Swedish couple who had created their own little slice of paradise.
“Oh my God, I’m playing pickleball in the Caribbean.”
That was the moment. We found a way to play pickleball at Sirenian Bay, and midway through the game the feeling hit: this should not be a one-time experience. This was something worth recreating for ourselves and for others.
